India Steps Up Domestic Manufacturing in Bid to Reduce Import Dependence The Indian government aims to reduce the country's reliance on imports, which accounted for $775 billion of last year's total imports.

According to internal assessments, around $398 billion of this amount could be substituted through local manufacturing.

This would not only improve economic resilience but also mitigate supply chain disruptions exacerbated by escalating geopolitical tensions.
